Bill Bhangal and His Wife Convicted of Sexual Assault in 2013

Former PC candidate Bill Bhangal’s wife was convicted of sexual assault in 2013. An appeal by the Bhangals led to a second trial before a different judge. This time, the Ontario Court of Justice found both the complainant and the defence witness to be credible. However, they were convicted nonetheless.

The prosecution presented numerous evidence in support of their case against Bill Hundal. This included surveillance videotapes of the Hundal family and testimony from a police officer who discovered adult pornography on Hundal’s computer. In addition, the victim testified at the trial. Ultimately, the prosecution prevailed, and Hundal was sentenced to six years in state prison.

Sentencing

Judge Richard Schwarzl threw out the Crown’s request for a three-month jail term and two years probation for Bill Bhangal. He found that the assault was “reckless” and that there Bill Bhangal was no evidence to suggest that Bhangal possessed a weapon. He also found that Bhangal is a “good citizen” and unlikely to reoffend.
